Columbus Youth Camp
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

CAMP ACTIVITIES

Swimming

Campers swim in Youth Camp Lake which includes a roped off swimming area as well as a sandy beach. The swimming area can get as deep as 10" but campers must pass a swim test to use it. Those who pass will not only get to enjoy the deep end but also two diving boards and a lake trampoline!

Canoe/Kayaking

Campers may use canoes and kayaks to explore the coves and shores around the lake. Beavers, deer, and different kinds of water fowl are easily spotted.

Hiking

There are a great many shaded forest trails to explore at Columbus Youth Camp. One will take you by an ancient stone council ring while another may bring you right into a sunny meadow. Look for the many forts, built by campers, along the way.

Athletics

A sprawling athletic field is a great place to play some kickball, throw water balloons, hold races, lay in the sun, or catch bugs.

Archery

Try and hit the bull's-eye on the archery range! Campers will learn to safely use compound and re-curve bows. They can try to elevate their skill over the summer, just have some fun, or try to beat the top score!!

Environmental Education

Look closely and you might spot our resident forester "Outdoor Ed." He lives off the land and teaches campers how to find natural edibles, build shelters out of fallen branches, start a safe and secure fire without matches, or possibly teach the kids how he manages to survive without TV.

Outdoor Living Skills & Living Green

Camper can bake food in the solar oven, learn how to compost their lunch scraps, recycling/reducing waste, and how to reduce their carbon footprint on the earth. Living green is what its all about!

Arts and Crafts

Coloring murals, leaf rubbings, face paint, tie-dye, bracelets, paper making and anything else you can think of! Lots of stuff to bring home to mom and dad.

CHALLENGE COURSE

Pamper Pole

This activity involves a telephone pole with climbing holds, harnesses, helmets, and a climbing rope.  Participants work as a team to get each person to reach for their goals.  Personal goals range from putting on a harness and stepping onto the pole to reaching the top of the pole and leaping from its perch.

High Ropes Course

This course consists of four cable elements set 30ft in the air nestled within a canopy of trees, harnesses, helmets, and a climbing rope.  The exit is an exciting zip line that carries the participant 100ft down a path through the trees.  Participants must work as a group to help each person set a goal ranging from stepping up to the ladder to going down the zip line.

Teams Course

This course consists of various low elements nestled in the woods. A facilitator guides groups through a sequence of initiatives and elements presenting specific challenges designed to develop the group’s communication, cooperation, trust, and ability to work as a team.
